As the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of US Power Generating Company (USPOWERGEN) which owned and operated 5,200 MWs of generating capacity in New York City and Boston, Jay Worenklein brings an unrivalled depth of expertise of the nation’s energy sector, including its operational and legislative challenges.
He is a highly-respected legal and business strategist, global finance expert and trusted executive advisor who has founded and led power and infrastructure, and global project, teams at Société Générale; Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy; and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, and served as legal counsel to many of the world’s leading power companies.

Dr Ray Gogel PhD is the former President and COO of Current Group (an innovative company specializing in cutting-edge smart grid operations); past VP of Client Services at IBM, responsible for IBM’s largest utility customer and P&L; Managing Director in Accenture’s Utility practice; Global Head of Smart Grid for Nokia-Siemens Networks; and CIO and CAO of Customer & Enterprise Solutions with Xcel Energy.
During his tenure, Xcel Energy was awarded the prestigious Edison Award for its “Utility of the Future” IT initiative, as well as Utility of the Year from EnergyBiz for the company’s pioneering “SmartGridCity™” efforts. Xcel Energy’s unique outsourcing model and use of Strategic Advisory Boards has been a driving force for transformational outsourcing in the utility industry.
David Mohler’s impressive nuclear and fossil fuel power sector resumé spans four decades, and encompasses senior operational roles in corporate marketing, strategic planning, human resources and business development with Duke Energy.
He is an enthusiastic advocate for the early adoption of smart technologies and fruitful domestic and international strategic partnerships. Under David’s leadership – Duke Energy became an early mover in the Smart Grid space.
David is a member of the advisory boards of Verizon Wireless, Cisco, AT&T and the Carnegie Mellon Advisory Utility Industry Center, and serves on the board of directors of the Asia Clean Energy Innovation Initiative.

Sandy K. Simon
VP Strategic Partnerships and Project Delivery
Sandy has been involved in the utility industry for more than twenty years. Her particular areas of focus within USGRDCO are the Modular Grid Design, Strategic Supplier selection, as well as the Program Management Office. Prior to joining USGRDCO, she consulted at GE to design, implement and deploy an advanced Project Management Office. Her consulting experience also includes delivery and integration of strategic smart grid solutions for HCL America and EnergyGrid Networks. Sandy also served as Executive Director and General Manager, West Division for Comverge, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent energy management solutions, including demand response. In this role, Sandy was responsible for oversight of utility client programs and for helping develop appropriate demand management strategies for the future.
Vishal has over 14 years of investment banking, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) advisory, and investment fund management experience. As a Partner with Kaminski Global Advisers, Vishal was focused on providing global financial advisory services to the energy, technology, healthcare, and financial services sectors. While at Lehman Brothers, he worked with the Global Power Group providing investment banking and M&A services to US and European utilities. He also worked with their Debt Capital Markets group in the UK helping raise over $40 billion in sovereign / corporate debt securities across US, Europe and Asia.
In the last decade, Vishal was involved in the formation and build out of Saffron Capital Fund, a US–India cross-border fund (cumulative AUM $500 million+), focused on the SME sector – aimed to foster economic growth and develop the private equity sector in the global emerging markets. With his network of relationships, he helped to raise and deploy ~ $200 million for the fund, with successful exits resulting in net investor IRRs of over 23%.
Terry MacDonald, PMP
VP Design and Architecture
Terry is a seasoned executive with over forty years of experience as a Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, General Manager, and consultant to many electric, gas and water utilities. He is the author of The Smart Grid Imperative and a lecturer worldwide on the subject of smart grid technologies. He led the successful and award winning smart grid implementation for both electric and water at Glendale Water and Power. Smart Grid technology, project and program management and business process design have been at the center of Terry’s work with utilities for the past 9 years. As the program manager for business process redesign at Bonneville Power he led a team that is credited with saving over 100 million dollars annually.
Assistant VP Finance
Adam is a former member of Kaminski Global Advisers: a specialist financial and strategic advisor to energy and financial sector clients who served on the firm’s execution and syndication management teams focused on project finance, debt structuring and financial services.
He was previously head of business development at the International Bronze Company, responsible for financial analysis and projections, managing sales teams where he excelled at cultivating and maintaining business relationships.
Prior to joining the financial sector – having gained a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Juris Doctorate – Adam served as judicial extern for the Honorable Loretta A. Preska, Chief Judge of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Senior Finance Advisor
Dan is the founder and CEO of Kaminski Global Advisers, an independent financial and strategic advisory platform based in NY, where he focuses on building business relationships, as well as financing turnarounds, restructurings and leveraging undervalued assets across key industry sectors. Prior to founding KGA, Dan served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for Marco Polo Group’s European operations, which was the leading equity and derivative-trading platform worldwide. Dan is a recognized world leader in identifying, financing and rapid deployment of breakthrough technologies, including advising the fiber-optic-link-around-the-world project in Africa led by the African Union.
Penny Tompkins, CAP-OM
Chief of Staff
Prior to joining US Grid Company, Penny was senior member of staff for the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Leucadia National Corporation, a diverse holding company engaged in mining and drilling services, telecommunications, energy, manufacturing, insurance and asset management, healthcare, banking, real estate and wineries.
As operational lead, she directed all planning and functional operations including treasury services and human resources. Her many business accolades include the “Excellence in Business Award” from Orange County Chamber of Commerce, “Woman of Outstanding Leadership” award from the International Women’s Leadership Association and “Woman of the Year” from The National Association of Professional Women.
